Frequently Asked Questions
Our Riyadh-based energy experts help businesses lower electricity costs, reduce emissions and strengthen resilience through solar projects. These projects support Saudi Vision 2030, the Saudi Green Initiative and the Kingdom’s Net Zero by 2060 ambition.
-
A solar lease allows your business in Saudi Arabia to use solar energy without upfront capital investment. As your solar developer, Yellow Door Energy finances, builds, operates and maintains the plant. You pay a monthly solar bill based on the electricity generated.
-
Yes. We have a dedicated team and an office in Riyadh, serving businesses across Saudi Arabia. Our local team is supported by our wider regional network of energy experts, combining local knowledge with technical expertise.
-
Savings depend on your electricity tariff, consumption patterns, available space and plant size. For facilities using diesel generators, fuel and operating costs also affect savings. Contact our team for a tailored assessment.
-
There are no upfront capital costs for developing the solar plant. You only start paying your monthly solar bill once the plant is operational.
-
CAPEX is the upfront cost of buying and installing equipment. OPEX covers ongoing costs, such as electricity bills. A solar lease replaces upfront investment with regular solar electricity payments, preserving capital for your business. Accounting treatment depends on the agreement and applicable standards.
-
We develop rooftop, carport and ground-mounted solar for commercial and industrial facilities. Rooftop systems use available roof space, carports generate electricity and shade parked vehicles, and ground-mounted systems use available land where permitted. The best option depends on your site and electricity needs.
-
We serve commercial and industrial customers rather than individual villas. These include factories, warehouses, malls, hotels, schools and offices, subject to site suitability and project requirements.
-
We manage design, procurement, permitting, construction and commissioning. We also handle ongoing monitoring, cleaning, maintenance and repairs, so your team can focus on your business.
-
We provide performance guarantees as defined in your solar lease agreement. Our team monitors generation, investigates issues and manages cleaning, maintenance and repairs to keep the plant operating efficiently.
-
BOOT stands for Build, Own, Operate, Transfer. We also finance the solar plant, so you avoid upfront capital investment. We own, operate and maintain it during the agreement. Ownership then transfers to your business under the contract terms.
-
Yes. Solar PV can be combined with battery energy storage systems (BESS) or existing generators in a hybrid system. Batteries store electricity for later use, while solar can reduce generator fuel consumption. Backup power during outages requires a system designed for that purpose.
-
Solar can reduce emissions associated with electricity use, supporting corporate Net Zero and environmental, social and governance (ESG) targets. A solar lease enables this without upfront capital investment. Generation data also supports progress tracking and sustainability reporting.
-
The program aims to reduce Saudi Arabia’s reliance on liquid fuels. Solar can replace part of the electricity produced by diesel generators, while batteries can store solar electricity for later use. This can reduce fuel consumption, deliveries and costs, supporting the program’s objectives.
-
Using solar contributes to Saudi Vision 2030 by expanding renewable energy use. It also supports the Saudi Green Initiative’s emissions reduction goals and aligns with the Kingdom’s ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2060.
